Care

Wash it by hand with warm water and mild soap, and dry it standing on its edge. Don't put it in the dishwasher and don't leave it soaking: olive wood is dense and a sudden change in moisture cracks it.

Every two or three months, a thin coat of food-grade mineral oil. It brings the colour back and keeps it from drying out.

Every piece is different

Olive wood isn't manufactured, it's cut. Each board comes from a different trunk, so the grain, the knots and the tone change from one to the next. The measurements are approximate for the same reason.

It may carry some bark on an edge or a more rustic patch. That's not a flaw or an oversight: it's the part of the trunk that was left alone, sanded and sealed with the same food-safe oil as the rest. It's exactly what makes the piece craft rather than factory work.

The one you receive won't be exactly the one in the photo. That isn't a flaw either: it's what makes sure there isn't another like it.

Why this board

What makes it different

Worked piece by piece
1 / 4

Worked piece by piece

Each one is cut and sanded individually, following the shape of the trunk. That's why the measurements are approximate and why it may carry some bark or a more rustic patch: none of them comes out of a mould.

Mediterranean olive wood
2 / 4

Mediterranean olive wood

One of the hardest, tightest-grained woods that grows around here. It takes up less water and less smell than softwoods, so it stays clean with very little effort.

No two are alike
3 / 4

No two are alike

Olive has the most pronounced grain of all our woods, and every trunk draws it differently. The board that reaches you isn't the one in the photo: it's yours.

No varnish, no stain

No varnish, no stain

The colour you see is the wood's own. It's simply sanded and treated with certified food-grade mineral oil, tested by SGS against European standard 1935/2004.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't my board look like the one in the photo?

Because each one comes from a different trunk. The grain, the knots and the tone change from piece to piece, and the measurements are approximate. It's real olive wood, not a manufactured panel.

Can it have bark or a rustic patch?

Yes, and it's good that it does. When the piece is cut following the shape of the trunk, it's normal for some bark to stay on an edge or for a patch to have more character. It's sanded and sealed with the same food-safe oil as the rest of the board. That's the signature of a handmade piece, not a finishing fault.

Is it dishwasher safe?

No. Solid wood swells and cracks with heat and pressurised water. Wash it by hand with warm water and mild soap, and dry it standing on its edge so both faces drain.

Is it for chopping every day or just for serving?

It does both, but it's mainly built for serving: it's thin and light. If what you want is to chop meat and vegetables every day with a heavy knife, a thick end grain board will suit you better.

How often should I oil it?

Every two or three months with normal use, or whenever the wood looks dull and feels rough. Food-grade mineral oil, a thin coat, let it sit a few hours and wipe off the excess.

What if I don't like it?
