Finish and care

It arrives sanded and untreated. Before you use it, give it the finish its destination calls for: oil if you want to see the wood, varnish or lacquer if it is going to get wet or live outdoors, stain if you are after a different tone.

Store it flat until you work on it, and do not leave it standing on edge against a wall: it is solid wood and it takes the shape you leave it in.

Why this panel

What makes it different

Solid teak, strip by strip
1 / 4

Solid teak, strip by strip

It is built by gluing strips together edge to edge. That is what keeps a panel this size flat over the years, instead of cupping the way a single piece of wood would.

It arrives sanded, not finished

It arrives sanded, not finished

Cut it to size, sand it, stain it, varnish it or oil it. The finish is your call, and it decides where the panel can end up.

The wood that stands up to damp

The wood that stands up to damp

Teak carries its oils in the fibre itself: it is what boat decks are made of. That is why it also works outdoors, as long as you give it a protective finish.

Parfait.

Frequently asked questions

Is it a chopping board?

No, and we do not sell it as one. It arrives sanded but with no treatment at all: it is raw material for you to work on. If what you want is a surface that is ready to cut food on, take a look at our boards, which come polished and oiled with certified food-grade mineral oil.

Can I turn it into a chopping board?

Yes, and there is no mystery to it. Sand the face you are going to use with fine grit, 180 first and then 220, and take the dust off with a barely damp cloth. Once it is dry, give it food-grade mineral oil: a thin coat, let the wood drink it in for half an hour and wipe off what is left. Repeat three or four times, with a few hours between coats, until it stops absorbing.

No varnish and no stain on the face that will touch food. And bear in mind that the finish is yours to do: the food-contact certification on our boards does not cover this panel.

Can I cut it to size?

That is what it is for. It saws, drills and sands like any other solid wood. That said, we only supply it in the standard sizes you see on the page: we do not cut to order.

Is it OK outdoors?

Yes, as long as you give it a protective finish. Teak stands up to damp better than almost any other wood, but left out in the weather unprotected it ends up going grey.

Can it warp?

It is made of strips glued edge to edge precisely so it does not. Even so, it is solid wood: store it flat, not on edge against a wall, and do not let one face get much damper than the other.

What if I don't like it?

You have 60 days to send it back, free and without explaining yourself. Message us on WhatsApp from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and we handle it ourselves.
